Frequently asked questions
Is the map on the website really free?
Yes. The map, points, planning, test flight and replay work without an account, without fees and without ads. Only the mobile app for in-flight navigation is paid (a subscription, the first 7 days free).
How much does the phone app cost?
The app is a Google Play subscription: the first 7 days free, then PLN 23.99 a month or PLN 234.99 a year (outside Poland Google Play shows the price in your currency). The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it. Details: how the subscription works.
How do I cancel the subscription?
On Google Play: profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → VFR MAP EUROPE → Cancel. You can open the same screen from the app: Settings → Subscription. Cancelling during the trial means no charge; after you cancel a paid subscription, the app works until the end of the period you paid for.
Where does the data come from and how current is it?
Airfields, airspace, VFR points and navaids come from OpenAIP, significant points from AIP Poland ENR 4.4. We refresh the data every AIRAC cycle (28 days); the date of the last update is shown on the map.
Can I use the website for navigation in flight?
No. The website is for planning and situational awareness on the ground. It does not replace a current chart, the AIP, NOTAM or a briefing. The app is for navigation in the air - and it too is only an aid; the pilot is responsible for the flight.
How do I move a route to the app?
In the route panel click "Send to app" and scan the QR code with a phone that has the app installed, or send yourself the link. The route opens in the app. You can also download a GPX file.
Which files can I replay?
GPX (e.g. from Garmin, other navigation apps, a phone), IGC (glider loggers), KML (e.g. Google Earth, Flightradar24) and GPX or CSV from the VFR MAP EUROPE app's logbook (GPX holds the full GPS track and block times). The file is processed only in the browser.
Is there an iPhone version?
For now the app is available for Android. The free map on vfrmap.eu works on any device, including iPhone and iPad.
Which countries does the map cover?
The free map on vfrmap.eu covers Poland (FIR Warszawa) and Germany (FIR Bremen, Langen and Muenchen). The phone app covers Poland for now. More European countries are coming. The VFR Academy guides describe the Polish rules, in English and in Polish.
What about privacy?
The website uses no cookies or tracking tools. The last route is remembered only in your browser's storage. The app keeps your position, routes and logbook only on the phone. Details: privacy policy.
